After trying two or three other (cheaper) paddock boots, I finally bought a pair of Ariat Cascades to work and ride in. It took about a week and a half to break them in, and the first couple days were uncomfortable. But after that, I have to say that these are the most comfortable, durable boots for day-in day-out wear and riding. Before I bought these boots, I came home from the barn with aching feet almost every single day. Not anymore. I wear them to do everything at the barn: hot-walk, feed, water, muck, teach, and ride. My ankles are not the strongest, and they give me great support in that area as well. They clean easily and polish up like a dream. They also have lace guides with smooth/rounded edges, and so save on lace wear and tear. I bought them at Broken Horn (suburban Los Angeles) for $114. They were worth every dime. If they ever wear out, I'll buy another pair just like
heavy work
